UMW supports 97 national and international projects in over 300 countries around the world with an emphasis on helping women, children and youth. Shiloh UMW also supports local projects including collecting school supplies and warm clothing for school children; spearheading the Sandwich Ministry and providing programs to enrich women’s faith and put it into action.
Eight hundred thousand lay women across America have chosen to be Members of this special organization. UMW is an integral part of the United Methodist Church. “In every local church there shall be an organized unit of United Methodist Women… Membership shall be open to any woman who indicates her desire to belong and to participate in the global mission of the church through UMW.
(The Book of Discipline)
The UMW is organized locally in a unit, connected to a greater whole that includes district, conference, jurisdiction, and national organizations. The national policy-making body is the Women’s Division of the General Board of Global Ministries. It is at Unit Meetings where the business takes place including and expanding our knowledge of mission. Within the unit are circles organized for study and fellowship. Each year the Women’s Division recommends three studies — one spiritual, one geographic, and one based on social issue. Each circle decides its own course of study. Members are involved through prayer, giving, attending meetings, study, action or service. There are no set dues.
Unit Meeting: 2nd Friday of each month at 2:00 pm
Ruth Circle: 2nd Friday at 12:30 pm
Lydia Circle: Last Wednesday at 6:30 pm
Any woman who cares about mission or cares to have fellowship with those who do is welcome!
