Children’s Ministry

Each Sunday at 10:00 am (during our second Worship Service)

Immediately following the Children’s Message, early in the 10:00 am worship service, all children are invited to our education wing for Sunday School activities intended just for them. Sunday School is designed especially for children 4 years old through 6th grade.

Grow, Proclaim, ServeOur 2013/14 curriculum is Grow, Proclaim, Serve!. Grow, Proclaim, Serve! incorporates Bible stories, activities, crafts, videos, and games into a full faith experience for children. They will develop the skills to unlock the Bible message and grow their faith by leaps and bounds. Colorful, engaging, theologically sound materials invite children to explore the Bible in fun, age-appropriate ways, capturing their attention and ensuring that God’s message is taken to heart. Children will discover that their faith can grow right along with them.

Here are two examples of recent topics and projects the Sunday School children have learned about and participated in:

  • Shiloh UMC’s Sunday School children have learned about different types of mission work in both the United States and throughout the world by the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). The children directly reached out to, and contributed toward, a local mission and a global mission; it included providing living livestock for families in third world contries. Read more about it.
  • The children created artwork imagined from the question: What does God’s love look like? The drawings are featured on bookmarks given to worshippers at our 2012 Christmas Eve worship services. Have a look.

Through Shiloh UMC’s Sunday School, we hope to help raise our young children to be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Our classes encourage spiritual and emotional growth through a variety of Bible lessons, discussions, music, art, drama, and recreation. We also realize the importance of supporting parents. Parents are the most important role model in their child’s guidance and development. We hope to nuture a positive parent/child relationship based on Christian principles. Therefore, our parents are invited to participate in all areas of our our Children’s ministry. Of course, the children’s safety is always our first priority and we are a Safe Sanctuaries* congregation.

Our Children’s Sunday School is led by Trudye Pierson-King.

Contact our church office for curriculum information, if you would like to enroll your child(ren), or if you would like to bless the lives of our children by teaching!

*Safe Sanctuaries is more than guidelines, policies and procedures implemented to create an environment in which children, youth and the adults who work with them have boundaries of safe space. Safe Sanctuaries is an overt expression of a congregation in making a congregation a safe place where children and youth may experience the abiding love of God and fellowship within the community of faith. As a part of Shiloh UMC’s Safe Sanctuaries practices, all adults that work with our children and youth are required to undergo background screenings.
