Worship at Shiloh UMC is relaxed, welcoming and engaging. Music is considered to be both traditional and contemporary. The entirety of each worship service is designed to support a common theme or message, with a sermon that is meant to challenge and inspire worshipers. If you miss any of our weekly messages, you can listen online at our website or by subscribing to our podcast on iTunes™.
Through worship we seek to discover and realize God’s divine presence in our daily living reality. We believe that it is in community, such as worship, that we most effectively learn together how to live in ways that are more loving, more peace-filled, and how we can be more effective mirrors of the light of Christ in our world.
At Shiloh UMC our Communion table is open to anyone who seeks to respond to Christ’s love and seeks to lead a new life of peace and love. As The United Methodist Book of Worship states, “All who intend to lead a Christian life, together with their children, are invited to receive the bread and cup. We have no tradition of refusing any who present themselves desiring to receive” (page 29). This statement means that in practice there are few, if any, circumstances in which a United Methodist pastor would refuse to serve the elements of Holy Communion to a person who comes forward to receive. It is the Lord’s Supper, not ours, and it is Christ who invites you. As our ritual puts it: “Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another.” Whether or not you should receive Communion with us is between you and God.
